Starting about a year after the Marysville record, Ferrari issued a brochure or press release, offering a "WSR" configured 550 Maranello. 

A reliable source indicates that the Ferrari factory had prepared three identical 550 Maranellos for the world speed run in Marysville. This web site is now attempting to identify whether two spare cars became the first of the 33 WSR edition cars (stripped of fuel cell and safety equipment).

Also of interest to this web site is whether any spare parts assembled by the factory for the 1998 record became the basis of what one English expert (see Tony Willis below, who imported all 10 RH examples to UK) has described as "the WSR 1 kit."  

One WSR edition car originally sold in Italy is known to have shock struts marked "post race."

Multiple sources feel that these facts are clear:

All 33 WSR cars were otherwise stock 550 Maranellos taken off the factory's main assembly line for WSR 1 parts (possibly on a separate hand-made line such as the F40 and F50 cars that preceded the WSR build).

Due to the WSR cars being otherwise stock: thus explaining the color variations in the 33 examples. There is reportedly a green WSR example in a (known but undisclosed by this site) Scandinavian country. A yellow/giallo example has been reported.

Ten RH examples were imported to UK, all featuring Grigio Titanio/ Bordeaux color (identical colors to LH Marysville car) and of these 10, nine survive with one totaled in an accident.

This web site's research has discovered these variations in the interior "WSR" badging: Early RH WSR's had badges affixed to the lower dashboard, indicating "WORLD SPEED RECORD
12 October 1998"

Later RH and LH cars had badges affixed to the shift console
"WORLD SPEED RECORDS" 

This web site's research indicates that a new generation of management within Ferrari is beginning to limit outside expert's access to factory records. In Europe, Ferrari is known to be cutting-off outside experts from continuing their decades old research in all Ferrari makes. 
If true, this web site's preservation of WSR history is more important than ever.
